WAPs initial failure is no secret to the public. The setbacks of the WAP 1.0 platform were numerous and all of them, incorrigible. There were no guidelines by which site developers could ensure a standard platform for all cell phones to view the content. Great stress was put on text coding and hyper-linking, but the outcome was just a 2-tone text file for each website. This was also due to the lack of technological progress in the cellular device industry.
But WAP 2.0 is a different platform altogether. It is a system based on the same Wireless Markup Language (WML) as WAP 1.0, but the interface is completely interactive and standardized for all cell-phones. This is because of the W3C guidelines for quality sites introduced in 2004. Since then, a massive number of users are enjoying the benefits of having a reliable interconnected network in the palm of their hands.
